The controversial decision to create a fourth arctic surf clam licence has been reversed.
The licence was intended to include more First Nation local participation in the lucrative fishery as previously all licences were held by a single company. Concerns about the allocation of the fourth licence to the Five Nations Clam Company were voiced by those in the fishing community and at all levels of government due to the perceived flawed process.
The DFO announcement states this decision was actually cancelled in early July.
